2016 Off to Medjugorie & MOSTAR in Herzegovina. .... this is just the beginning...

Our Lady of Medjugorje (also called Queen of Peace) is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary by those who believe that she appeared in 1981 to six Herzegovinian children in Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina (at the time in SFR Yugoslavia).

On 24 June 1981, young Mirjana Dragicevic and Ivanka Ivanković reported seeing an apparition of the Virgin Mary in a village in what is now in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The following day another vision was reported, this time also by four other young people
The children claim that they saw an apparition on the hill Crnica (on the place called Podbrdo); the alleged apparition was a white form with a child in her arms. Surprised and scared, they did not approach. The next day at the same time four of the youths returned, and were later joined by the other two.
For several years the six visionaries reported seeing daily apparitions from the Virgin Mary.
At the time of the first alleged apparition Vicka Ivanković was sixteen years old. She claims to have prayed with Our Lady and talked to her; she also claims to have been given nine "secrets".

We got given one of these beautiful brass badges which we cherish.

Sadly I seem to have lost my pic's from this day ( and others) so please forgive the "professional" look of the above borrowed one's.  Normally I pride myself in taking mediocre photo's as can be seen below. Much more to my style.

We actually spent the night in Medjugorie, walked up Apparation Hill the next day and generally tried to get the feel of the place.  We were looking forward to a closer connection with God, more so than other churches, monastery's etc but  sadly this was not the case. I know God is always among us and surely was during our stay, but for some reason I didn't feel that spiritually fulfilled.

Mostar is a city in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, straddling the Neretva River. It’s known for the iconic Stari Most (Old Bridge), a reconstructed medieval arched bridge. The nearby alleys are full of shops and market stalls, and the Old Bridge Museum explores the bridge’s long history. A narrow staircase leads up to the Koski Mehmed-Pasha Mosque’s minaret for panoramic city views.

Check out those bullet holes!!!

At first we were unsure of wondering so deep into this strange and historically violent countryside but after feeling extremely sage white at Medjugorie we decided to simply continue as far as Mostar. Why you ask...... because of the iconic bridge. it seems a regular sport is for folk to bungee jump from above with the intention of getting wet below. Although they don wet suits it still remains to close to the ground for me. !!

A walk around of the old city was most enjoyable, cobbled river stoned streets made it a bit difficult for B but was otherwise well worth the effort of getting there. ( no real effort really , lol )

The bridge has been rebuilt since the war (see above) but it was reconstructed using most of the original stone and replicated exactly as it was prior  bombing. The result, perfect as for as I was concerned.

Yep we got hungry, and thirty so we indulged a little .. Not much mind you . Our bikes were secured a ways away and we still needed to find OL later.

2016 Time to SPIT ..( The city ) and then on-wards to Sibenik and ZADAR......

Split, a town on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, is known for its beaches and the fortress-like complex at its center, Diocletian's Palace, erected by the Roman emperor in the 4th century. Once home to thousands, its sprawling remains include more than 200 buildings. Within its white stone walls and under its courtyards are a cathedral and numerous shops, bars, cafes, hotels and houses.

Trogir is a town on the central Adriatic coast of Croatia. Its preserved old town, known for its mix of Renaissance, baroque and Romanesque buildings, lies on a small island connected to the mainland and the island of Čiovo by bridges. The 13th-century Cathedral of St. Lawrence houses the Renaissance Chapel of St. John and offers sweeping views from its bell tower. Parts of the medieval city walls remain intact.

ZADAR

The Sea organ is an architectural object located in Zadar Croatia, and is an experimental musical instrument which plays music by way of sea waves and tubes located underneath a set of large marble steps. We were expecting a natural phenomenon, but as you can see it's man made and not too long ago either.

2016 SAILING DAY , ..... tx to SunSail and Kieth !!!

It was time to sail!!!!!. With compliments of Sun-sail we were off to another sun filled day. The excuse being the need to collect "special Olive oil" from a specific Island way in the distance. As we were not one's to complain, we happily mucked in.

We should have known better, turns out we were coerced into skippering and the like, while all this time abused in ways unimaginable. Being plied with eats and drinks went a long way in easing the burden, but we promised never to repeat the exercise! ….. unless  asked of course???/

On arriving at the Island B& I needed to partake in a leisurely walk to calm the nerves while negotiations were underway by the crew to obtain the merchandise at almost giveaway prices. I believe the restaurant owner was so intimidated by the show of force, that he succumbed to the pressure of having to invite us to "stay on for meal before venturing back onto the rough seas.".

Much excitement was had by all and off we went. Soon after cast-off a few dolphins decided to grace us with their presence. The consensus was that they just surfaced to complain about the erratic steering, as by this time as we had indulged and enjoyed a most scrumptious lunchtime meal along with “a few many” alcoholic beverages.

Hey, hey, hey, slow down ok!. One cannot work and not play you know!. Balance is the key to a stressful life. Not only had we endured the rough seas and associated wind that could easily blow a potato crisp off the bow, all this had to be completed with the implicit instructions “that we needed to have fun !!!” …....Give me a break!!!!

Can you imagine having to contend with crew members having just wonderful smiles while you're out there giving it your all to ensure a job well done???
No sooner had our stop over in Dubrovnik began, when it was time to move on. One can get lost soaking up this beautiful part of the world. We wish Kieth, Anita and Dario a most full  and fun filled life, God Bless and may the forces be with you always!!!!

Psst, disclaimer:  The REAL reason for the trip related to the evaluation of New employee's Skipper skills.
